Vladimir Veličković - Biography

Vladimir Veličković was born in Belgrade (former Yugoslavia), in 1935. After graduation from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade in 1960, he turned to painting. In 1963, he held his first solo exhibition. He was awarded at the Biennial of Paris in 1965, where he lives and works today. After his exhibition in 1967 at the Dragon Gallery in Paris, he became famous to a wider audience and soon appeared as one of the most important artists in the field of Figuration Narrative Movement.

Veličković was appointed professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1983 and he taught there for the next 18 years.

Member of the Academy of Fine Arts – Institut de France.
Commander of Arts and Letters in France.
Knight of the French Legion of Honour.
